Ghosts, goblins and a gnome

This slide has been greased (Fall Fest in Newbury Park)

At the last minute, we changed our Halloween weekend plans and jetted to Socal to visit family, friends and soak up some warm, sunny rays.  Our little guy has flown on too many airplanes to count anymore, but this was the first trip that he actually understood that we were going to the ariport and flying on an airplane.  This got him really excited, which made traveling waaaaaay easier.  Our first stop was Newbury Park, CA, where we spent a few days with my uncle, aunty and mom.  My mom’s brother has been fighting an amazing battle with cancer and recently seemed to take a turn for the worse.  We hadn’t seen them in awhile and felt compelled to be there to show our love and support.

A true fighter, Uncle George

While there, though, I wanted to make sure Laird was able to take part in any Halloween festivities.  Not to mention that I had spent a lot of time at my sewing machine working on his little gnome costume and wanted to see him running around in it.  So we found a Halloween event at a nearby community park where we took Laird and his cousin, Hana.  After waiting a half an hour to walk through “trick-or-treat street,” the two of them shuffled down the row of booths with their bags of goodies.  I’m not sure if I’m just picky, but I thought the candy assortment was a huge disappointment.  Whatever happened to classics like Snickers, M&M’s, KitKats, etc?  Instead Laird got a few lollipops, a yo-yo and a toothbrush.  But I digress…

Off to beg for candy

Mommy and Daddy actually gave me a lollipop!!

After saying our tearful goodbyes to my family, we drove back to the LA area and stayed with our dental school friends, Mac and Jen.  Laird got to spend some time with his buddies, McKaylee and McCaden, at the Redondo Beach Pier before we boarded the plane back to our home.  Again, little monster did really well, keeping happy with peanuts, pretzels and some Dora videos.

Swinging in Redondo Beach

OMG funnel cake with strawberries and whipped cream!!!

And that was it for our spooooooky weekend!  If you have a minute, please say a prayer for my Uncle George in California who is still fighting every day. 🙂
